Poetry, Music & Art in the Park

April 24th // 11-2 pm

at Stewart Park (15th and J St in Arcata)

(Rain will bring it into the Sanctuary)

Come celebrate life and togetherness with the Sanctuary community as we host a day of music, poetry and art making in the park. Bring your sketchbook and join in the arting.

The J Street Regulars Alex Montes de Oca, Beverly Twist, Britt Smith, James Zeller and Katie Belknap are working up a special set of music with a 3 piece horn section, 3 part vocal harmonies and a swingin’ beat that will make you smile, laugh, and dance.

Four poets new to the Sanctuary will perform. Aundrea Stuckey is a Eureka native, a proud Black woman dedicated to Art, Healing Arts and Racial Equity. Rachel Noel has spent her entire life chasing opportunities for artistic expression. She frequently collaborates with and supports other local artists and small businesses as a creative director, model, dancer, actress, writer, musician, designer, and photographer. Brothers Bamidele and Ra are both spoken word artists as well as body workers. Bamidele is a Yoga Facilitator, and Ankh (Life) Coach, and Ra is a breath worker. Learn more about these spoken word artists on our blog.

Poetry readings will be interlaced with music sets, and the poets and musicians will collaborate in live improvised creations to end the day. Also joining in the fun will be the Sanctuary community music group OnSomeBall.

The shows will be documented with field recording equipment by Oryan Peterson-Jones and shared on our Youtube and Facebook channels.

Performances sponsored by the Grace Us Foundation as part of the J Street Regulars Radio Hour.
